Dear
Visitor:
I launched Individualist Voice with the purpose of providing an independent,
rational, and uncompromising voice for individual freedom in all areas
of human existence. Individualism is the view that each
individual ought to live according to the values that maintain
and enhance his or her own life. An individualist is a person who,
like Howard Roark in Ayn Rand's novel, The Fountainhead, proudly
declares, "I am a man who does not exist for others."
Individualists find their purpose, and derive their pleasure,
from within themselves. They take utmost pride in practicing
self-reliance
and demand from others only to be left alone.
Individualism's greatest reward is
self-liberation--the complete actualization of one's individuality and the pinnacle of human freedom.
Unfortunately, society's authority figures inhibit individual
freedom. Government erects oppressive laws. Schools,
churches, and other social
institutions demand mindless obedience. The dominant cultural
forces--expressed through media, business, and most everyday conversation--instill group-think as a means of suppressing our
individuality. Most social pressures depend for their effectiveness on the
individual's passive acquiescence. As a result, too many individuals enslave
themselves without being consciously aware that they're giving up their
own freedom to be themselves.
True freedom can only
be achieved by individuals who break free from
society's mold of conformity. And for anyone who is willing to pursue
it, I suggest the following: ·
Refuse to
surrender your individuality (i.e., your ideas and values) to authority
figures--whether they be overreaching parents, domineering teachers,
demanding bosses, or intrusive government officials. ·
Resist the
pressure to conform to the expectations of those whose opinions of you
are unimportant. ·
Rise to stand out
from the crowd in social situations; don't lower yourself to "fit
in." ·
Live life based
solely on the standards you have independently chosen as proper for
yourself.
Practical applications of individualism such as these form the principal focus
of Individualist Voice.
To better appreciate the
principles that form the foundation of individualism, Individualist Voice also
explores relevant philosophical issues, such as the nature of human nature and the means by which individuals can acquire knowledge. The only philosophy that is consistent with independent living in all respects is that of Objectivism. Indeed, individualism is Objectivism as it pertains to man's relationship to other men.
I hope Individualist Voice
serves as a source of inspiration along your path
to self-liberation. Respectfully,
Logan
Feys
