The Nonsense Behind Society's Anti-Individuality Forces

    Americans will fall for just about anything. Polls indicate that 33 percent of us believe in haunted houses. Half believe in extra sensory perception. More than half believe that space aliens have visited our planet. Most alarmingly, 95% of Americans believe in God.

    Minds that believe without questioning, or that question without thinking, are minds that have closed up and shut down. They pose a danger to themselves and to the rest of us because they embrace conformity. (In the absence of rational thought, faith -- which entails conformity -- is the only means of arriving at conclusions.) Such self-denying individuals are eager to take orders from religious gurus, abusive lovers, political demagogues, and the like.
